Pediatric Dentistry awarded Oak Hill's Service Provider of the Year

Drs. Thal, Rostenberg, Wegrzyn, and Leung take seriously their responsibility to serve the entire dental community. One way we demonstrate that commitment is by treating handicapped patients of all ages. In recognition of that commitment Pediatric Dentistry was awarded Oak Hill's Service Provider of the Year in November, 2009. Oak Hill, founded in 1893, "enhances independence and quality of life for people with disabilities, including visual impairments, by setting the standard in providing innovative solutions, program excellence, services and advocacy."

The doctors volunteer their time and expertise in other ways

Give Kids a Smile Day-An annual national event that provides free dental services for children who otherwise cannot afford dental care. On Feb. 5, 2010 we provided care for 24 children, for some this was their first dental experience.

Connecticut Mission of Mercy (CTMOM)- Two days of free dental care for people of all ages. In April, 2009, 1800 children and adults received care in New Haven. Dr. Thal has been in charge of recruiting and coordinating volunteers for the event for the past three years.

New Britain Oral Health Collaborative-The Collaborative is comprised of private dentists, the Community Health Center of New Britain, and other community organizations that are working together to improve access to dental care for New Britain's children. Dr. Thal has been co-chair of the Collaborative's executive committee since 2003. The Collaborative is recognized throughout Connecticut as a model for improving access to dental care.

Preschools-Drs. Thal, Rostenberg, Wegrzyn, and Leung serve as consultants to numerous pre-schools and nursery schools, as well as New Britain Head Start.
