Donald George Greiner, DDS, MSc

Donald George Greiner was born January 10, 1938, and graduated in 1961 from Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Science degree, and in 1963 as a Doctor of Dental Surgery. In 1964, Dr. Greiner completed a US Army Rotating Internship at Walter Reed Hospital, then served as the Chief of Clinic in the US Army in Illesheim, Germany and Fort Carson, Colorado. In 1970, Dr. Greiner received a Master of Science and Certificate in Pedodontics from Ohio State University.

In 1970, Dr Greiner accepted an appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Connecticut Health Center; a position he held until 1973. He became Dental Clinic Director at the Newington Children’s Hospital, and from 1975-1982, he was Chief of Dental Services. In 1973, Dr. Greiner established his pediatric dental practice in New Britain. In 1975, Dr. Greiner accepted a position of Chief of Dental Services at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain. From 1981 – 2000, Dr. Greiner resumed part-time teaching at the University of Connecticut Health Center as an Assistant Clinical Professor, working with students and residents in the dental clinics.

Dr. Greiner was honored with a membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon at Case Western Reserve. He was a Diplomate and Fellow of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Greiner was a Past District Trustee of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry as well as a Past President of the Connecticut Society of Dentistry for Children, the Connecticut Society of Pediatric Dentistry, the Northeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry and the New Britain Dental Society. In 1999 Dr. Greiner received a plaque of recognition for developing a community dental clinic in New Britain.. In 2000, Dr. Greiner was elected to the Pierre Fauchard Academy, an international dental honor society.

His community service included serving on the Board of Directors of United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Hartford, as a Consultant to the Health Committee of Vision New Britain, and as a member of the Executive Committee of Oral Health 2010, a committee of the Connecticut State Dental Association. He was a member of numerous other professional organizations.

Dr. Greiner worked tirelessly to improve access to dental health care for all children, but especially handicapped and underserved children. We at Pediatric Dentistry, P.C. will always miss him and will look to his memory to guide our future course.
