Every tooth contains a nerve or dental pulp. When the nerve dies as a result of a cavity or traumatic injury, pain and swelling can occur. Change in color of a tooth indicates damage to the nerve and may be an indication of a future problem. Both baby teeth and adult teeth can develop abscesses or infections. In most cases dental infections can be treated.

In extreme cases of infection, extraction of the tooth may be the best course of treatment. In any case, antibiotics may be used to control and eliminate a dental infection.

Dental infections are potentially a serious problem. If you suspect that your child has a dental infection call Pediatric Dentistry at once. We are available on an emergency basis 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
