Losing a tooth is a big milestone in your child’s life, and for many families, it’s also an exciting chance to welcome a special guest: the Tooth Fairy! Whether it’s your child’s very first lost tooth or one of many to come, creating a fun experience can make the moment even more memorable. Here are some creative ideas that are certain to make the night the Tooth Fairy visits an exciting event!
Create a Tooth Fairy Pillow or Box
Make (or buy) a small pillow with a pocket or a decorated box where your child can safely place their tooth. These keep the tiny tooth secure—and make it easier for the Tooth Fairy to find it during the night. Of course, you can also reuse this for each additional tooth your child loses in the future!
Create a Certificate of Tooth Loss
Mark the occasion with a fun certificate celebrating your child’s lost tooth. Include the date, the name of your child, and which tooth (or teeth) they lost. You can even print out templates online to use, or simply create your own—or let your child come up with it themselves!
Start a Tooth Fairy Journal or Scrapbook
Use a small notebook where the Tooth Fairy “writes” notes after each visit. Your child can look back on their tooth-loss journey, and you’ll have a sweet keepsake for the future! Similarly, you can also opt to put together a scrapbook that catalogs your child’s smile as they lose (and gain) teeth.
Read a Tooth Fairy Story Together
To get kids in the spirit and introduce them to the Tooth Fairy, you can read your child one of the many books out there that include this iconic character. You can even make it a tradition where every time she’s about to visit your home, you and your child read one of these stories together.
Every family celebrates the tooth fairy a little differently, and there’s no right or wrong way to do it. The most important thing is to make your child feel special and proud of this exciting dental milestone!
